Job Summary

Grimmway Enterprises is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Agricultural Operations Manager to oversee all field operations related to planting and scheduling. This position will be responsible for collaborating with the potato farming team, variety development personnel, and farm managers to ensure the successful execution of planting operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Scheduling and Planning: Schedule planting operations in cooperation with the Director of Potato Operations and/or Farm Managers, ensuring flexibility in operations to accommodate weather conditions.
  • Team Management: Manage planting crews consisting of planting supervisors, planting operators, tractor drivers, and graders, maintaining accurate time and attendance records for planting crew employees.
  • Quality Control: Ensure specified population and quality standards are met at all times and in all regions, monitoring the quality of outside labor crews and company personnel.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of different potato varieties, seed sources, and cultural information related to all plantings, as well as coordinate with the seed department on seed varieties, trials, and inventory.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Be responsible for equipment repair and maintenance to ensure reliability and consistent performance.
  • Travel and Attendance: Coordinate rotation of traveling planting crew members, address attendance and/or performance issues with planting supervisors and crew team, and oversee field operations and coordinate general shop tasks.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Agriculture preferred but not required in lieu of direct experience.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years experience operating and maintaining farm equipment, such as service vehicles, tractors, and planters.
  • Skills: High mechanical aptitude, knowledge of planting, farming operations, powered equipment, and potato planting equipment, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Physical Demands: Ability to continuously work all day in various and sometimes extreme weather conditions, work with product and equipment at ground level, and move items weighing up to 25 lbs.
