About the Position

The City of Saint Paul Department of Safety and Inspections is seeking a Mechanical Compliance Specialist to conduct comprehensive evaluations to ensure that mechanical modifications and installations adhere to approved designs and specifications, as well as relevant sections of the Minnesota State Building Code.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct inspections and document findings on mechanical installations and modifications to verify that approved materials are utilized and that workmanship meets standards.
  • Enforce compliance by mandating corrections on non-conforming items.
  • Execute tests on mechanical installations, equipment, and materials.
  • Interpret codes to address both standard and unique scenarios.

Position Requirements

A High School or Vocational School Diploma and an official certificate verifying the completion of an apprenticeship as a steamfitter or gasfitter, such as issued by the State of Minnesota, along with five years of experience as a journey-level steamfitter and gasfitter.

Alternatively, a High School or Vocational School Diploma and eleven years of experience in steamfitting and gasfitting, with a minimum of seven years at the journey level, three of which must include holding a Certificate of Competency for Refrigeration, Steamfitting, or Gasfitting.

Must possess a Certificate of Competency issued by the City of Saint Paul or Minneapolis for Steamfitting, Gasfitting, and Refrigeration. A State of Minnesota High Pressure Piping License is required at the time of appointment, and an Oil Burner Certificate of Competency must be obtained within six months.

Must hold and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License or an equivalent out-of-state driver's license.
