Position Summary: The Residential Support Advocate plays a crucial role in overseeing the shelter during weekends, delivering crisis intervention, and providing compassionate listening to residents. Responsibilities include facilitating group and recreational activities, managing the 24-hour crisis line, and ensuring a secure environment for all.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with residents positively, offering emotional support and demonstrating consistent respect.
  • Assist residents in fulfilling their daily needs, ensuring access to personal care items.
  • Address client concerns and resolve shelter-related issues.
  • Enforce program guidelines and monitor resident adherence.
  • Respond to the 24-hour crisis line, providing crisis intervention, supportive listening, and shelter intakes.
  • Supervise scheduled activities and participate in recreational programming.
  • Conduct intake assessments and orientation for new residents.
  • Coordinate meal preparation for residents.
  • Perform light housekeeping tasks as required.
  • React promptly and appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Document relevant information in logs and case notes, ensuring accurate communication with staff.
  • Maintain shelter security and safety protocols.
  • Participate in staff meetings and supervision sessions as necessary.
  • Report any suspected cases of child abuse or maltreatment as mandated.
  • Exhibit crisis intervention skills and provide objective supportive listening.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both in writing and verbally.
  • Work independently and collaboratively within a team setting.
  • Demonstrate calm and cooperative behavior in all interactions.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Uphold strict client confidentiality while engaging with a diverse population.
  • Showcase skills in group meal preparation, basic household maintenance, and group facilitation.
  • Act in alignment with the mission of Equinox.
  • Complete additional tasks as needed to ensure the shelter operates smoothly.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to navigate stairs.
  • Capability to lift and carry a minimum of 25 pounds.
  • Ability to manage basic facility emergencies.
  • Valid driver's license to transport clients using agency vehicles.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Possession of a clean, valid NYS Driver License.
  • One year of experience in human services (Bachelor's Degree may substitute for experience).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree in a related field.
  • Fluency in Spanish or another language.
  • Prior experience in a residential setting.
  • Experience working with populations affected by domestic violence, substance abuse, or mental health issues.

Schedule:

  • Weekends (Saturday and Sunday, with an additional shift differential).
  • Alternating weekends.
