As the leading provider of support for victims of domestic violence in Albany County, our programs ensure safety and offer vital resources for individuals, including the elderly, to escape abusive circumstances and regain control of their lives. Our Domestic Violence Services are accessible to all victims and their dependents, irrespective of gender, age, ethnicity, or sexual orientation.

Role Summary: The Culinary Specialist will oversee various kitchen operations, including menu development, procurement, meal preparation, and maintaining a hygienic kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare meals for a shelter accommodating 30 individuals.
  • Take charge of specific meals on a weekly schedule.
  • Source food supplies through orders from the Regional Food Bank, other suppliers, shopping, and accepting donations.
  • Ensure the kitchen, appliances, and dining areas are kept clean and orderly.
  • Handle post-meal clean-up and ensure proper storage of leftovers.
  • Plan meal budgets effectively.
  • Design menus featuring a variety of culinary styles.
  • Manage kitchen operations efficiently.
  • Perform additional tasks as required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Capability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to use a telephone.
  • Capacity to navigate stairs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Possession of a clean, valid NYS Driver License.
  • Understanding of meal preparation and food safety practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in cooking for large groups.

Work Schedule: Varies, including weekends and early evening hours.
