Position Overview

Sayres & Associates is in search of an Availability Work Package Manager (AWPM) with a SECRET clearance, to oversee critical engineering operations related to Navy ship availabilities.

The AWPM will serve as the primary point of contact for all technical and engineering activities associated with assigned naval vessels during their availability periods. This role will be stationed at a key naval command.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate effective technical solutions to engineering challenges encountered during Navy ship production.
  • Evaluate work item proposals from various sources, including configuration control boards and technical support teams, while integrating lessons learned into future projects.
  • Draft comprehensive Statements of Work for Navy consideration, ensuring that proposed changes align with availability work packages and engineering modifications.
  • Assess work specifications to guarantee adherence to certification standards and class build requirements.
  • Facilitate the assignment of work to appropriate facilities in collaboration with regional maintenance centers.
  • Engage with the NAVSEA technical community to address and resolve engineering issues.
  • Participate as a member of the on-site management team, traveling as necessary to the homeport or shipyard.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of the vessel and its spaces, including dry-dock facilities, to monitor progress during availability.
  • Contribute to the preparation of written responses addressing concerns raised in Commanding Officer's Letters in anticipation of final contract trials.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree coupled with a minimum of five years of experience in Navy shipboard operations.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Proven experience in client/customer relations.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
  • Active Secret security clearance, verifiable through appropriate channels.

Compensation:

The anticipated salary for this role ranges from $70,000 to $90,000, subject to adjustment based on experience, geographic location, and contractual obligations.
