Marine Structural Technician

Objective:

Valkyrie Enterprises is seeking a Marine Structural Technician who will play a vital role in the assembly and fitting of naval vessels. The Marine Structural Technician will be responsible for laying out, fitting, and fabricating metal components to construct structural elements such as plates, bulkheads, and frames within the ship's hull. This position requires the ability to interpret drawings and specifications to effectively plan fitting and welding tasks, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop templates for bending, shaping, and reinforcing metal structures.
  • Accurately measure, layout, and cut templates as needed.
  • Possess knowledge of doors, hatches, brackets, and clips for installation on vessels.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and rough sketches to guide fitting and welding operations.
  • Set up and operate portable burning/heating torches for steel plates and shapes using propane, acetylene, and oxygen.
  • Tack weld foundations and braces securely in place.
  • Identify and mark reference lines, including center, buttock, and frame lines.
  • Adhere to scheduling and attendance requirements.
  • Ensure all work complies with relevant codes and standards.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Follow all OSHA, shipyard safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Travel to job sites as required and utilize company vehicles.
  • Be prepared to work beyond the standard work week, including weekends.
  • Perform additional tasks as needed to support the company's mission.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Trade school education and/or a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Must meet NAVSEA 248 requirements by passing MIL-STD 1689 T9074-AR-GIB Workmanship standards.
  • Ability to understand and interpret welding symbols in accordance with MIL-STD 22D.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to obtain a passport.
Security Requirements:
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance for access to private and public shipyards and naval installations.
Travel Requirements:
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% nationwide, including potential international travel.
  • If travel involves domestic flights or access to secure federal facilities/military bases, candidates must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate identification credentials.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift, carry, and transport heavy equipment and materials, with a minimum weight of 20 lbs.
  • Physical agility to perform tasks aboard naval vessels, including climbing ladders and working in confined spaces.
  • Potential for extended periods at sea.
  • Capable of performing duties in high heat, humidity, noise, and dirty conditions.
  • Frequent exposure to noise from machinery and equipment.
  • Required to operate trucks, forklifts, and man-lifts.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, use hands, and perform various physical tasks.
  • Work in extreme temperatures and conditions, including areas with limited ventilation.
  • Frequent use of respirators may be necessary.
