POSITION OVERVIEW: The Quality Assurance Technician will be responsible for conducting quality assurance inspections and non-destructive testing (NDT) on vessels during repair activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Execute quality assurance evaluations on the work performed by welders, fitters, and pipefitters, ensuring adherence to established procedures, materials, and technical guidelines. Conduct thorough inspections of work areas and general quality assurance checkpoints.
  • Carry out non-destructive testing on all components as mandated by industry specifications, blueprints, and procedural requirements, including but not limited to visual, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, and ultrasonic inspections for piping and structural assemblies.
  • Participate in production meetings to stay informed about job developments and collaborate with supervisors to address issues and mitigate negative workmanship trends. Maintain communication with NDT examiners and project managers.
  • Monitor subcontractor NDT inspections and assess their welding and NDT procedures for compliance prior to submission for review.
  • Document, organize, and analyze test results, producing detailed NDT and quality assurance inspection reports.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of testing equipment.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

  • Schedule and conduct preliminary and final NDT checkpoints.
  • Provide on-the-job training for other quality assurance staff.
  • Assist NDT Level III personnel as required.
  • Undertake other responsibilities as assigned by management.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of two years of relevant technical experience.
  • Fulfillment of all requirements to function as a Quality Assurance Technician.
  • ASNT Certification is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Documentation supporting completion of VT, PT, UT, and MT NDT requirements is essential, with Level II certification in at least three testing techniques.
  • Familiarity with shipboard structures and systems is necessary, with at least one year of NDT experience in the marine repair sector preferred.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and quality assurance systems.
  • Knowledge of welding processes and documented ultrasonic experience is advantageous.
  • Ability to operate or learn to use various testing equipment, including magnetic yokes and ultrasonic devices.
  • Strong organizational capabilities and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook are required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with others.
