Position Overview

The City of Reno is seeking a highly skilled Traffic Engineer to oversee and manage the planning, development, and operation of the City's traffic control systems. This role involves significant administrative responsibilities and requires a strong background in traffic engineering principles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct and coordinate the activities of the traffic engineering section, ensuring effective system design, maintenance, and modifications.
  • Develop and implement strategic goals, objectives, and policies for traffic engineering programs.
  • Monitor service delivery methods and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of traffic engineering staff, providing training and support as needed.
  • Manage the division's annual budget, forecasting necessary funds for staffing and resources.
  • Analyze traffic conditions and recommend appropriate control measures based on public feedback.
  • Prepare specifications and estimates for traffic signal systems and related maintenance functions.
  • Establish and enforce standard operating procedures to ensure quality control in traffic engineering activities.
  • Review construction plans to ensure compliance with traffic control and transportation management standards.
  • Utilize computer simulation programs for the development and maintenance of traffic signal timing plans.
  • Act as a liaison with other departments and agencies to resolve complex traffic-related issues.
  • Participate in professional meetings to stay informed about new trends in traffic engineering.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in civil or traffic engineering, along with five years of relevant experience, including two years in a supervisory role. A valid driver's license and registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Nevada are required.

Physical and Working Conditions

This position involves working in a standard office environment with occasional field investigations. Candidates must be able to perform physical tasks related to the job and communicate effectively with the public and team members.
