Your Role

We are seeking a seasoned engineer with a minimum of 15 years of professional experience in the planning and design of river, stream, and floodplain projects.

You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of ecologists, landscape architects, engineers, and scientists to develop innovative projects in intricate ecological environments.

The selected candidate will contribute to various mitigation, restoration, flood risk management, and infrastructure protection initiatives for both public and private clients throughout the Western United States.

Typical Project Types Include:
  • Restoration and enhancement of river and stream habitats
  • Improvements for fish passage
  • Assessment and planning of watersheds and floodplains
  • Restoration of coastal habitats
  • Stabilization of river and stream banks
  • Flood control initiatives
  • Infrastructure development and safeguarding
  • Support for additional engineering and surface water management projects
Minimum Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience in the design and conceptualization of stream and river restoration and floodplain management projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering, or a master's degree in civil or environmental engineering if the undergraduate degree was not in engineering.
  • Current professional engineer (PE) license in California, Washington, and/or Oregon, or the ability to obtain one through comity application based on licensure in another U.S. state.
  • Understanding of Western state environmental policies and local permitting requirements.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Familiarity with watershed characteristics and processes along the West Coast.
  • Experience in preparing design plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Proven ability to manage design tasks through to completion and construction.
  • Business development experience with established client relationships.
  • Capability to develop contractual scopes of work and budgets.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work with a fast-paced interdisciplinary team on concurrent projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in civil engineering or environmental science with a focus on aquatic ecosystem restoration, hydraulics, or geomorphology.
  • Experience managing floodplain and restoration design or planning projects.
  • Expertise in fish passage analysis and design for roadway culverts.
  • Experience in construction management and inspection.
  • Knowledge of hydrologic analysis and modeling techniques.
  • Experience with hydraulic modeling (one- and two-dimensional).
  • Permit application experience in California and other Western states.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and ArcGIS.
  • Experience with field data collection and associated equipment.
