Your Role

We are seeking an engineer with over 15 years of professional experience in the planning and design of river, stream, and floodplain projects. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of ecologists, landscape architects, engineers, and scientists to develop projects in intricate ecological environments. The successful candidate will contribute to various mitigation, restoration, flood risk management, and infrastructure protection initiatives for both public and private clients throughout the Western United States, working alongside internal and client project teams.

Typical projects may include:

  • Restoration and enhancement of river and stream habitats
  • Improvements for fish passage
  • Assessment and planning for watersheds and floodplains
  • Coastal habitat restoration efforts
  • Stabilization of river and stream banks
  • Flood control measures
  • Development and protection of infrastructure
  • Support for additional engineering and surface water management projects
Essential Qualifications

Education, Experience, & Licensure/Certifications

  • Minimum of 15 years of professional experience in the design and conceptualization of river restoration and floodplain management projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering, or a master's degree in civil or environmental engineering if the undergraduate degree was not in engineering.
  • Current professional engineer (PE) license in California, Washington, and/or Oregon, or the ability to obtain one through comity based on licensure in another U.S. state.
  • Knowledge of environmental policies and local permitting requirements in Western states (e.g., CEQA, SEPA).

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Understanding of watershed characteristics and processes along the West Coast, from British Columbia to Mexico.
  • Experience in preparing design plans, construction specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Proven ability to manage design tasks from inception through to construction.
  • Experience in business development, including maintaining current client relationships.
  • Ability to develop contractual scopes of work and budgets.
  • Capacity to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with interdisciplinary teams working on concurrent projects across various jurisdictions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in civil engineering or environmental science with a focus on aquatic ecosystem restoration, hydraulics, or geomorphology.
  • Experience managing floodplain and restoration design or planning projects.
  • Expertise in fish passage analysis and design for roadway culverts.
  • Experience in construction management and inspection.
  • Familiarity with hydrologic analysis and modeling techniques.
  • Experience with one- and two-dimensional hydraulic modeling.
  • Permit application experience in California and other Western states.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and ArcGIS.
  • Experience with field data collection and associated equipment.
