Your Role

We are seeking a seasoned engineer with over 15 years of experience in the planning and design of river, stream, and floodplain projects. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of ecologists, landscape architects, engineers, and scientists to develop innovative projects in complex ecological environments. The successful candidate will engage in various mitigation, restoration, flood risk management, and infrastructure protection initiatives for both public and private sector clients throughout the Western United States.

Typical projects include:

  • Restoration and enhancement of river and stream habitats
  • Improvements for fish passage
  • Assessment and planning of watersheds and floodplains
  • Coastal habitat restoration efforts
  • Stabilization of river and stream banks
  • Flood control initiatives
  • Infrastructure development and safeguarding
  • Support for additional engineering and surface water management projects
Essential Qualifications

Education, Experience, & Certifications

  • 15+ years of professional experience in the design and development of river restoration and floodplain management projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering, or a master's degree in civil or environmental engineering if the undergraduate degree was not in engineering.
  • Current professional engineer (PE) license in California, Washington, and/or Oregon, or the ability to obtain one through comity based on licensure in another U.S. state.
  • Knowledge of environmental policies and local permitting requirements in Western states.

Skills and Competencies

  • Understanding of watershed characteristics and processes along the West Coast.
  • Experience in preparing design plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Ability to manage design tasks from conception through to construction.
  • Business development skills, including maintaining client relationships.
  • Experience in developing scopes of work and budgets.
  • Strong multitasking abilities in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in civil engineering or environmental science with a focus on aquatic ecosystem restoration, hydraulics, or geomorphology.
  • Project management experience in floodplain and restoration design or planning.
  • Experience in fish passage analysis and design for roadway culverts.
  • Construction management and inspection experience.
  • Familiarity with hydrologic analysis and modeling techniques.
  • Experience with hydraulic modeling (one- and two-dimensional).
  • Permit application experience in California and other Western states.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and ArcGIS.
  • Experience with field data collection and related technologies.
