Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Project Archaeologist 2 to join our team. As a cultural resource management specialist, you will be responsible for managing archaeological surveys and site documentation, working with multi-disciplinary teams, and producing professional quality reports for compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage archaeological surveys and site documentation, including feature and artifact identification and analyses, performing shovel test pits (STPs), site descriptions, photographs, and mapping.
  • Collaborate with teams in our Transportation, Resources, and Water Business Groups to plan, staff, and execute major cultural resource management efforts.
  • Produce professional quality reports for NRHP and NEPA compliance.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a closely related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in cultural resource projects.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project.
  • Self-starter with excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of and experience with project compliance-related activities, including consultation, quality assurance, and reviews.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in adverse environmental conditions.
  • Familiarity with field study design and documentation, regulatory framework for cultural resource management, and GIS utilities.
  • Ability to submit a writing sample and verifiable references.
  • Commitment to being an active participant in our employee-owned culture.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to record cultural resources in the field without physical assistance.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds without assistance.
  • Effective communication skills in person, by telephone, and email.
  • Ability to work in minimally supervised and/or unsupervised environments.
  • Ability to work hours other than 8 to 5 during field mobilizations, including weekends and/or night shifts.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to operate a vehicle day or night.
  • Approximately 50% travel required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.
  • Minimum 1 year's experience managing technical staff during fieldwork and report preparation.
  • Good organizational skills, a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn and execute new tasks.
