As an Architectural Historian, you will engage in diverse projects across transportation, municipal, and federal sectors, providing essential cultural resource support. This role offers the chance to ensure compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), NEPA, and other pertinent regulations.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong skills in technical report writing, archival research, and field surveys. Responsibilities include evaluating structures for eligibility for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) and contributing to NEPA documentation and cultural resource reports. You will also assist in assessing potential impacts on historic properties, conduct architectural surveys, and prepare necessary documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough historic property research utilizing State Historic Preservation Office resources.
  • Perform archival and background investigations.
  • Document methodologies and findings from research efforts.
  • Prepare architectural inventory forms and comprehensive reports.
  • Execute field surveys to assess historic properties and project impacts.
  • Compile Section 106 and NEPA reports.
  • Manage multiple electronic deliverables across various projects, ensuring timely completion within budget constraints.
  • Be prepared for occasional travel on short notice.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Architectural History, Historic Preservation, or a related discipline.
  • Compliance with the Secretary of Interior's Standards for professional qualifications in architectural history.
  • Three to five years of relevant professional experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and collaboration tools.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Experience in documentation and research, including NRHP eligibility assessments.
  • Good photography skills.
  • Familiarity with the NHPA Section 106 consultation process.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to rent vehicles.
  • Resident of the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Field experience with established architectural research methods.
  • Knowledge of 'recent past' resources.
  • Experience with relevant state transportation and historical commissions.
