Position: Architectural Historian - Mid-Level

As a valued member of our team, you will engage in a variety of projects related to transportation, transit, municipal, and federal initiatives, providing essential cultural resources support. This role offers the opportunity to work on compliance matters pertaining to the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), NEPA, and other relevant cultural resource regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough historic property research utilizing State Historic Preservation Offices and online databases.
  • Perform archival and background research to support project objectives.
  • Document methodologies and findings from research and investigations.
  • Prepare architectural inventory forms and comprehensive reports on architectural and historical resources.
  • Conduct field surveys to document historic properties and evaluate project impacts.
  • Prepare reports in accordance with Section 106 and NEPA requirements.
  • Manage multiple electronic deliverables across various ongoing projects, ensuring timely and budget-conscious completion.
  • Be prepared for occasional travel on short notice.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Architectural History, Historic Preservation, Public History, Architecture, or a related discipline.
  • Compliance with the Secretary of Interior's Standards for professional qualifications in architectural history or history.
  • Three to five years of relevant professional experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, and Microsoft Teams.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Experience in documentation and research, including Historic American Buildings Survey/Historic American Engineering Record documentation.
  • Good photography skills and familiarity with the NHPA Section 106 consultation process.
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to rent a vehicle.
  • Must be a resident of the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Field experience with established methods of applied architectural research for historic structures.
  • Knowledge of 'recent past' resources.
  • Experience collaborating with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and the Texas Historical Commission (THC).

Compensation will be commensurate with experience, with bonuses available for outstanding performance.
