About Mexic-Arte Museum:

Through the display of both traditional and contemporary artworks, the museum provides visitors with a unique opportunity to engage with and learn about the diverse histories and artistic expressions of these vibrant cultures. The museum also extends its impact through outreach initiatives, educational classes, guided tours, lectures, and various programming aimed at community engagement.

Scope: The Cultural Education Specialist is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and oversight of the museum's educational initiatives and internship programs. This role involves managing both daily operations and long-term strategies for educational development, including tours and community outreach. Furthermore, the Cultural Education Specialist collaborates closely with the Curator and Director of Programs to create programming and activities related to exhibitions.

Reporting Relationship: The Cultural Education Specialist reports directly to the Executive Director.

Key Partners: This position works as part of a three-member Education Department team, collaborating with interns and other professionals. The Cultural Education Specialist is also integrated into the museum's exhibits and programming team and maintains ongoing partnerships with educational institutions and professionals.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Exhibitions & Programs

● Acts as the liaison to the Curatorial Department, contributing to the exhibits and program team by providing insights during the development of exhibitions and educational components related to special projects.

● Translates exhibition and educational materials from English to Spanish, requiring strong written and verbal skills in both languages.

● Directs and coordinates a comprehensive educational program that aligns with the museum's mission. This includes:

Developing, researching, and implementing innovative educational programming for diverse audiences, presented in various formats at the museum, such as tours, family activities, adult programs, lectures, panel discussions, and workshops.

Collaborating on educational workshops and programs for the public and educators, including family days and career-focused events.

Co-developing educational materials, including guides for educators and gallery visitors.

Internship Coordination

● Manages the internship program, including all reporting and evaluation processes.

● Ensures that the internship program equips interns with the skills and experiences necessary to become competent, entry-level museum professionals capable of working in community settings.

● Serves as a liaison between educational institutions and the museum.

● Oversees all aspects of the internship recruitment process, including screening, enrollment, orientation, and ongoing support for interns.

● Provides leadership to the internship program through supervision, training, and support, in alignment with the museum's values.

● Regularly evaluates the performance of the internship program, using data to inform improvements.

● Prepares documentation for intern compensation.

Educational Programs

● Leads the museum's educational programming to create innovative initiatives that reflect the museum's mission and strategic objectives, as well as specific exhibitions.

● Assists in planning school programs based on exhibitions and partnerships, fostering relationships with educators and schools.

● Aids in developing curricula related to exhibitions for K-12 art education outreach in local schools.

● Supports the implementation of tours, family events, summer camps, and artist workshops in educational settings.

Other Responsibilities

● Participates in all collective event activities, including special events and other assigned duties.

● Engages with professional organizations and collaborates effectively with diverse individuals, including staff and other professionals.

● Tracks and generates required deliverables for grants, including report preparation and file maintenance.

● Performs additional duties as assigned within the scope of this role.

Educational and Experience Preparation:

Requires a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in art history, arts education, museum studies, or related fields, with a solid understanding of modern and contemporary art, particularly Latinx art; a minimum of one year of professional experience in arts education, including curriculum and program design; excellent organizational and computer skills; and the ability to foster constructive relationships with others.

Requirements for Qualification:

● Proficient written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish.

● Extensive knowledge of Latinx and Latin American art, history, and culture.

● Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English, both spoken and written.

● Ability to pass a Texas Background Check, possess a valid Texas driver’s license, and have reliable transportation.

● Must be available to work on-site during specified hours.

● Strong time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

● Capability to manage multiple tasks effectively.

Compensation: This is a full-time, salaried position with partial healthcare benefits. Some evening and weekend hours may be required for programming. The annual salary is $52,000.
