Position Summary:

The Engagement Coordinator will assist the Director of Life Enrichment and the team in the development, organization, and execution of impactful activities tailored to the interests and needs of residents, promoting their physical, mental, and social health. This role ensures that personalized activity programs are effectively delivered by staff.

Key Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Director of Life Enrichment, the following tasks will be performed:

  • Organizing daily, weekly, and monthly events, games, and discussions to foster interaction, social engagement, relaxation, and active involvement.
  • Maintaining resident lifestyles through individualized one-on-one and small group activities.
  • Managing logistics to facilitate activities/events, including submitting work orders, arranging spaces, and preparing necessary materials.
  • Inviting residents to participate in activities and providing transportation and assistance as needed.
  • Effectively communicating with older adults, including those experiencing memory loss and other challenges.
  • Monitoring residents' enjoyment and needs, reporting any significant behavioral changes to the Life Enrichment Director and/or Charge Nurse.
  • Facilitating virtual and in-person visits between Assisted Living residents and their families.
  • Maintaining daily records of activity participation and completing ongoing documentation as assigned.
  • Assessing individual resident needs and interests, contributing to their activity plans.
  • Assisting with regular and special recreational outings.
  • Completing daily administrative tasks as required.
  • Identifying supply needs to support programming and procuring items as necessary.
  • Participating in departmental meetings and representing the department as needed.
  • Engaging in training sessions, workshops, and seminars as appropriate.
  • Gaining knowledge of the proper use of activity-related equipment and supplies.
  • Collaborating closely with the Director of Life Enrichment and other team members to provide meaningful activities.
  • Communicating and cooperating with all team members and departments regularly.
  • Adhering to all safety, sanitary, and environmental regulations, particularly those related to COVID-19, within the Life Enrichment Program.
  • Upholding the Mission, Vision, and Values of Horizon House in all responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; college experience preferred.
  • Experience working with older adults and strong communication skills.
  • At least one year of experience in long-term care or a similar setting; experience with dementia is a plus.
  • Possession of a WA State Food Worker Card (to be obtained within 14 days of hire).
  • Completion of WA DSHS Dementia Specialty Training and WA DSHS Mental Health Specialty Training within 90 days of hire if not previously completed.
  • Proficiency in Office 365 applications (Publisher, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Understanding of the special needs of residents (physical, mental, and social).
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • First Aid/CPR certification is preferred.
  • Experience in event management and coordinating volunteers and vendors is advantageous.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Demonstrates proper techniques for lifting and assisting elders.
  • Exhibits strong interpersonal skills when working with seniors.
  • Possesses patience and sensitivity to the needs of others.
  • Ability to collaborate with community groups.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
