Position Overview:

Colliers Engineering & Design is actively seeking a Project Engineer to become a vital member of our Bridge and Structures division. This role is based in our Southfield, MI office and is essential to our mission of enhancing the transportation infrastructure.

Role Significance:
Bridges play a crucial role in our transportation network, and we pride ourselves on employing top-tier design engineers and specialists with vast experience in both maintenance and rehabilitation. Our team comprises professionals who understand client needs, many of whom have backgrounds in state DOTs, Class 1 railroads, and national technical committees. The work environment is collaborative, fostering mentorship from experienced engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in diverse projects involving the design and rehabilitation of highway, rail, and pedestrian bridges, as well as culverts and retaining walls.
  • Lead the technical design aspects of bridge projects, including the development of work plans, coordination with other disciplines, and execution of calculations, modeling, design reviews, cost estimations, and specification development.
  • Contribute to the creation and updates of internal standards and practices.
  • Conduct quality control and assurance checks on design computations, CAD drawings, reports, and specifications.
  • Act as a liaison for clients, design professionals, and contractors.
  • Potentially serve as the quality coordinator for discipline-led projects.
  • Assist in crafting technical narratives and project scopes.
  • Participate in professional association committees focused on policy and standard development.
  • May stamp or sign drawings and reports, serving as the Engineer of Record.
  • Support the mentorship and development of junior design staff.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering is mandatory.
  • Preferred candidates will have over 5 years of relevant experience in bridge and structure design.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or progress towards licensure is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD Civil3D is required.
  • A strong work ethic and commitment to continuous learning are essential.
  • Familiarity with MDOT and AASHTO design codes is necessary; knowledge of AREMA codes is a plus.
