Position Overview

Role: Histotechnologist II

Department: Laboratory Surgical-Autopsy Pathology

Location: Phoenix

This role is responsible for executing a variety of complex histological tasks and immunohistochemical analyses, alongside advanced genetic and molecular testing, adhering to established protocols and laboratory methodologies. The position operates under the general guidance of the department supervisor and does not oversee other staff.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Conducts standard histology procedures autonomously, including tissue grossing, processing, embedding, microtomy, routine H&E staining, and coverslipping.
  2. Executes intricate histology tasks independently, such as performing special stains, histochemical stains, and immunohistochemical stains.
  3. Handles highly sophisticated histology functions independently, including IHC antibody titration, optimization, protocol troubleshooting, and the development of histochemical tests.
  4. Implements advanced histology techniques independently, such as immunofluorescent staining and molecular/genetic antibody testing, including in situ hybridization methods.
  5. Maintains laboratory instruments as per established guidelines, identifying and resolving any operational issues to ensure safety and efficiency.
  6. Engages in the assessment and/or creation of new methodologies, instruments, assays, and quality enhancement initiatives, actively contributing to the improvement of laboratory practices.
  7. Prepares and delivers patient case slides and reports to pathologists.
  8. Organizes and maintains the storage of tissue blocks, glass slides, and tissue controls.
  9. Enhances professional and technical expertise through continuous learning and engagement with current literature and advancements in histology, including participation in educational opportunities to uphold certification.
  10. Performs additional job-related tasks as assigned.
