Position Title: Survey Instrument Operator

Location: Field position - Texas and Louisiana

Role Description

The Survey Instrument Operator will be responsible for operating various surveying instruments and conducting field surveys or data collection as directed by management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Utilize a range of surveying instruments to assist a survey crew in daily tasks.
  • Support the Crew Chief in executing field surveys.
  • Manage the operation, verification, and basic adjustments of survey equipment, including tripods, tribrachs, levels, total stations, GNSS receivers, and data radios/modems.
  • Employ survey controllers and software to gather geospatial data and perform survey calculations.
  • Interpret different types of maps and plans accurately.
  • Maintain organized and precise field notes during survey operations under the Crew Chief's guidance.
  • Communicate any issues and progress updates to the Crew Chief.
  • Assist in loading and unloading equipment and supplies from trucks.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of survey tools, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Adhere to company safety protocols during survey operations.
Qualifications
  • Valid and current driver's license.
  • Minimum of one year of relevant industry experience.
  • Understanding of basic survey principles, computations, and field operations.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrains.
  • Willingness to travel to remote locations for extended periods.
Education
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Preferred: College or technical training in land surveying, AutoCAD drafting, or related technical fields.
Competencies
  • Strong business and interpersonal skills are essential.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
  • Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle and have reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Frequent standing and walking on job sites, with physical mobility to bend, crouch, or climb for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds when handling various survey equipment.
  • Willingness to travel as needed for site visits over extended durations.
