Position Overview

Assists the Survey Party Chief in evaluating the earth's surface to ascertain accurate locations and measurements of points, elevations, lines, areas, and contours for construction, land division, titles, or other objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engage in the planning, diagramming, and layout for surveying tasks.
  • Perform physical labor related to surveying requirements, such as clearing brush for lines, transporting stakes, and/or pins and right-of-way markers to delineate features of all phases of construction projects.
  • Assist in establishing elevations and grades as necessary.
  • Install or mark elevations as directed by the Surveying Journeyman.
  • Manually measure distances using survey chains and a plumb bob, ensuring the accuracy and consistency of survey chains.
  • Set up electronic measuring and sighting equipment accurately and perform these tasks as required.
  • Operate and maintain surveying tools and instruments.
  • Inspect work to ensure compliance with applicable standards for surveying activities.
Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or equivalent may be required, along with relevant experience in the field or a related area.
  • Possess strong knowledge, skills, and abilities pertinent to the position.
  • Ability to work an 84-hour work week and live aboard a vessel for the full rotation.
  • Willingness and capability to travel as necessary.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Ability to comprehend hand signals.
  • Ability to understand, follow, and communicate written and oral instructions effectively with craft workers under supervision.
  • Proficient in using hand tools, power tools, and layout tools safely and efficiently.
Requirements

• The individual in this role must be able to navigate a construction/industrial site, which requires standing, walking, sitting, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling.

• Regularly works in a construction environment and will be exposed to varying outdoor weather conditions.

• Must be prepared to work irregular hours, including weekends, overtime, and holidays as needed.

• May need to utilize ladders, mechanical platforms, manlifts, or scaffolding to access required equipment or work areas (potentially exceeding 200 feet), necessitating the ability to climb and maintain balance on various structures.

• Capable of moving and working in confined and cluttered spaces, as well as on uneven surfaces.

• Must be able to perform tasks in a noisy and dusty environment.

• May be required to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds across the construction/industrial site.

• Must possess the necessary tools for the job.

• Adhere to all safety and project regulations, performing additional duties as required.

• Ability to pass pre-access drug and alcohol testing, fit-for-duty medical evaluations, and background checks.

• A valid Driver's license is required.

• TWIC - Transportation Worker Identification Credential is preferred.

• Must be able to endure rough seas, vibrations, heat, harsh weather conditions, confined spaces, and high noise levels.

• Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.
