Role Overview

The Jewish Education + Bay Area Programs Manager plays a vital role in advancing Tawonga's mission by working closely with the Bay Area Programming team to design and execute our various local programs. This position collaborates with the Assistant Director of Bay Area Programs & Partnerships to support and enhance existing programs, including the B*Mitzvah program, Tawonga Family School, Tot Shabbats, holiday events, and community service days. Responsibilities include program development, coordination, administration, and management of the B*Mitzvah Program and Tawonga Family School, as well as assisting with summer operations.

Key Responsibilities

Supervisory Duties

  • Oversee lead Jewish Educators and Teaching Assistants for the B*Mitzvah Program and Tawonga Family School.

Bay Area Program Management

  • Direct the B*Mitzvah program and Tawonga Family School.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director on the recruitment and training of program educators.
  • Assist with summer operations, including transportation logistics and parent communications.
  • Facilitate holiday programs in partnership with other organizations.
  • Drive innovation and cohesion in existing programs.

Oversight of Educational Programs

  • Manage B*Mitzvah classes, retreats, and related gatherings.
  • Ensure high-quality experiences for participants in the Tawonga Family School.
  • Hire and train educators, providing regular feedback and support.
  • Conduct observations of classes and services, offering constructive feedback.
  • Act as an educator or substitute teacher when necessary.
  • Develop and adapt educational materials and curricula.
  • Build relationships with diverse families and address any challenges that arise.

Service Planning and Mentorship

  • Prepare service leaders and support families in planning their service details.
  • Manage the mentorship program and oversee mitzvah projects.

Holiday and Partnership Programs

  • Implement kid-friendly programming during High Holidays.
  • Coordinate Jewish holiday events in collaboration with other organizations.

Marketing and Recruitment

  • Promote the B*Mitzvah Program and Tawonga Family School through information sessions.
  • Maintain communication with families and manage enrollment targets.

Summer Camp Support

  • Assist with logistics for summer camp transportation and communications.

Professional Development

Engage in ongoing professional development relevant to the role.

Qualifications

Required

  • Experience in Jewish education.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum 2 years in program management.
  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.

Preferred

  • Strong managerial skills.
  • Experience in program innovation and development.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Supervision

This position reports to the Associate Director of Bay Area Programs & Partnerships.

Work Environment

This role is primarily based in the Bay Area, with flexibility for remote work. Normal working hours are during the day, with some evening and weekend commitments.
