Position Summary:

Lead the design, assessment, and execution of various bridge projects. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality, cost-efficient solutions that fulfill client needs and adhere to regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Guidance

  • Receive general guidance on primary objectives for project execution. Seek direction as necessary, particularly for complex tasks, modified techniques, and innovative approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria. Work is conducted using advanced methodologies and principles, with oversight from senior staff to ensure sound professional judgment. Review outputs produced by junior staff for quality assurance.

Operational and Company Engagement

  • Collaborate closely with senior team members to gain insights and assist with engineering and planning tasks.
  • Support the promotion of the firm's capabilities to attract new clients and strengthen existing relationships.
  • Coordinate with various disciplines and internal services/groups as required.

Execution of Duties

  • Develop comprehensive designs and specifications for new bridge structures, including prestressed concrete, steel, and composite materials, utilizing industry-standard software and design codes.
  • Conduct structural analysis and calculations to ensure the safety and integrity of bridge designs, taking into account factors such as load distribution, wind resistance, seismic activity, and environmental impacts.
  • Work alongside senior engineers in performing feasibility studies and site assessments to evaluate the suitability of proposed bridge locations and identify potential challenges.
  • Collaborate with architects, civil engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure that bridge designs are seamlessly integrated into larger infrastructure projects, aligning with overall project objectives.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports, drawings, and presentations to effectively communicate design concepts, analysis results, and project updates to clients, regulatory bodies, and internal teams.
  • Review contractor submissions, shop drawings, and construction plans to ensure compliance with design specifications and quality standards.
  • Provide technical mentorship and support to junior engineers, drafters, and interns, encouraging professional growth and knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in bridge engineering, participating in professional development and continuing education as needed.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related discipline is required.
  • Academic or internship experience in bridge design is preferred.
  • Three or more years of experience in bridge design and analysis is preferred.
  • EIT certification is required.
  • PE License is preferred.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis software such as Bentley Open Bridge Designer or similar tools is required.
  • Familiarity with relevant design codes and standards, including AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, ACI, and ASTM is required.
  • Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and CAD software is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) is required.
  • A valid state driver's license and the ability to pass a motor vehicle check or reliable transportation to/from the office and/or project site is strongly preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • Primarily an indoor professional office setting, which may include varying light conditions, noise, and other typical office environments.
  • Mobility within an office environment is necessary.
  • Frequent use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.
  • Occasional outdoor work may be required, including exposure to varying weather conditions and potential hazards.
  • Mobility around job sites, including walking, bending, and wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Frequent use of data collection equipment may necessitate walking for extended periods.
  • Primarily local travel during business hours, with some potential for out-of-area and overnight travel as needed.
  • Occasional lifting or carrying of up to 20 pounds may be required.
  • Occasional pushing or pulling of up to 20 pounds may be necessary.
  • Occasional reaching above shoulder height may be required.
