Job Summary

The MIT Libraries-Liaison, Instruction & Reference Services (LIRS) department is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to serve as a Biosciences Library Liaison. This role will provide research support, teaching, and service delivery to departments in biology, biological engineering, and brain and cognitive sciences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement outreach strategies to enhance research support and teaching services
  • Aid in information and data management, including data cleaning, version control, and reproducible research tools
  • Teach critical information skills to faculty, researchers, and students
  • Support open access initiatives and promote equity and open science
  • Participate in project teams and the LIRS science and engineering community of practice
  • Contribute to the development of research methods and trends

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in a relevant discipline or an MLS/MLIS
  • At least three years of experience with data and scholarly information in research
  • Demonstrated skills in science and engineering contexts, including providing research support, developing outreach strategies, and using collaborative research tools
  • Strong collaboration, organizational, and communication skills
  • Support for the Libraries' commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing bioscience data sets
  • Familiarity with data cleaning, version control, and reproducible research tools
  • Awareness of research trends and ethical, legal, and policy issues in science and engineering
