Position Title:
Residential Safety and Support Specialist
Program: Emergency/Bridge/Temporary/Harm Reduction Shelters
Reports to: Monitor/Security Supervisor and Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Pay Range:
$19- $22 per hour, based on experience.

POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Monitor/Security Supervisor and Manager, the Residential Safety and Support Specialist will ensure a secure environment and oversee activities in the surrounding areas. This role involves assisting with daily operations and guaranteeing the safety and comfort of clients, staff, volunteers, and visitors. The Specialist will collaborate with residents, staff, service providers, and guests to de-escalate conflicts and enhance the Emergency/Bridge Shelter experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Residential Oversight
  • Evaluate participant needs upon admission and exit from the program;
  • Assist residents with their requests, including accessing supplies, clothing, food, etc.;
  • Document and report incidents and daily activities as required;
  • Support clients with special needs as necessary (disabled/seniors);
  • Collaborate with external agencies;
  • Make appropriate referrals to available resources and services.

Safety Management
  • Ensure all participants and visitors check in and out of the facility;
  • Maintain a daily log during each shift;
  • Provide security and safety both onsite and in the neighboring communities;
  • Work in partnership with local law enforcement and outreach teams;
  • Document and report incidents and daily activities as required;
  • Conduct regular fire and safety inspections;
  • Maintain a secure and safe environment for all participants;
  • Resolve conflicts among participants in a professional and efficient manner.

Operational Duties
  • Oversee janitorial and laundry services;
  • Communicate and adhere to program and shelter policies and procedures while modeling professional rapport with all staff, clients, and partners;
  • Uphold confidentiality for all participants;
  • Engage and work cooperatively with participants, service providers, and staff members.

QUALIFICATIONS
Team Members must demonstrate the ability to adhere to policies and procedures as outlined in the Company's Employee Handbook. Team Members will also contribute to a positive work environment by communicating and behaving in a manner that fosters good relationships with all constituent groups, co-workers, and management.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • High School diploma or GED with a minimum of two (2) years of lived experience and at least one (1) year of practical job experience;
  • Three (3) years of experience working with people, preferably with the target population.

CERTIFICATION
  • CPR and First Aid, and NARCAN certification preferred.

KEY SKILLS SET
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and over the phone;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Understanding of confidentiality protocols and protection of personal information;
  • Ability to organize and prioritize projects and multiple tasks effectively and timely;
  • Problem-solving skills and maintaining composure in high-pressure situations;
  • Act as a liaison with partner agencies;
  • Ability to work independently with minimal daily supervision;
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws, codes, regulations, and departmental policies and procedures;
  • Experience with theories, principles, and practices of homeless housing interventions, social services, case management, eviction prevention, shelter diversion, and crisis intervention;
  • Familiarity with practices and principles such as Housing First, Trauma-Informed Care, Conflict Resolution, Motivational Interviewing, Low Barrier Operations, and Prevention and Diversion is preferred;
  • Bilingual speakers of any language are preferred.

EQUIPMENT AND APPLICATIONS
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint is preferred;
  • Working knowledge of standard office equipment;
  • Experience with principles and practices of data collection, HMIS, and Clarity is preferred.
