Position SummaryThe Support Specialist plays a crucial role in providing 24-hour assistance at the assigned residential facility, delivering counseling services to an adult population with psychiatric, substance abuse, and/or HIV-AIDS related disabilities. This position involves advocating for clients and addressing their treatment and rehabilitation needs. All services are grounded in the philosophy of social rehabilitation, emphasizing the teaching of daily living skills in a nurturing environment.
Full-Time and Part-Time positions are available across the organization.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct intake interviews and assist in developing, implementing, and planning client treatment.
- Assess the clinical needs of residents.
- Evaluate clients for potential crises and determine suitable interventions.
- Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions as assigned.
- Monitor and document clients' progress towards their individual goals.
- Maintain clinical notes and conduct hourly rounds to comply with Medi-Cal standards and licensure requirements.
- Provide primary supervision and support for residential clients during shifts.
- Serve as a role model, guiding clients in daily living skills, self-care, interpersonal relationships, and effective time management.
- Assist clients with household chores, meal preparation, and group activities.
- Ensure clients are connected with primary care providers and help them access community resources.
- Participate in staff meetings and shift change discussions.
- Uphold professional boundaries with clients and colleagues.
- Complete 30 hours of staff development training annually as required by the agency.
- Ability to work at a designated worksite.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- At least one (1) year of full-time experience, or equivalent part-time experience, in a program serving individuals with mental disabilities.
- Direct experience in providing services to clients is essential.
- DOJ clearance is required for specific treatment programs.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
- Capacity to respond physically to clients' needs during crisis situations.
- Proficient in extensive charting and documentation.
- Must possess a valid COVID-19 vaccination card.
