Position Overview
The role involves specialized technical and supervisory responsibilities within the Business Tax Section, focusing on business licenses and associated taxation. The incumbent will provide training to staff on procedures, software, and database management as required. Key responsibilities include maintaining accurate records, data entry, and record organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the comprehensive business tax assessment program for the County.
- Resolve non-routine issues as they arise.
- Review and analyze documentation, spreadsheets, schedules, and forms related to business licenses and other tax forms.
- Conduct necessary research on federal tax documents and information from the Business Personal Property Tax Section.
- Respond to inquiries from business owners, CPAs, attorneys, and the public.
- Issue notification letters to taxpayers regarding assessment changes or requests for information.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants should possess a combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate's degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field, along with three to five years of relevant experience.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist in designing forms and documents related to the Business Tax Section, recommending modifications as necessary.
- Monitor and maintain the correspondence log for the Business Tax Section.
- May perform backup duties in the absence of the Deputy Commissioner of Revenue.
Work Environment
The position requires flexibility in working hours, including extended hours and weekends during peak periods. A valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with a good driving record is mandatory.
Physical Demands
The role is primarily sedentary, involving the operation of various office equipment such as computers, printers, and copiers. Some standing, walking, and bending may be required.
