Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Payroll Coordinator to join our team at York County, Virginia. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing the County's bi-weekly and monthly payrolls, verifying and maintaining the automated timekeeping system, and creating payroll deductions for payment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process bi-weekly and monthly payrolls, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Verify and maintain the automated timekeeping system, ensuring compliance with County policies and procedures
  • Create payroll deductions for payment, including taxes, benefits, and other deductions
  • Review and approve personnel actions, ensuring compliance with County policies and procedures
  • Prepare reports associated with payroll expenditures, providing insights and recommendations for improvement

Requirements

  • High school diploma, supplemented by college-level courses in bookkeeping or accounting
  • 4 years of experience in all phases of payroll processing, or any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access software, as well as automated payroll and time/attendance systems
  • Thorough knowledge of accepted payroll principles and practices, tax deposit rules and regulations, and overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
  • General knowledge of employee benefits and generally accepted accounting principles specifically related to payroll processing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Munis financial software and Kronos time and attendance systems

The Payroll Coordinator will work in a fast-paced office environment, with frequent deadlines and high levels of accuracy required. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
