Position Summary: We are seeking a Deep Ocean Scientist to support the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) in understanding the implications of climate change on regulated activities in the deep waters of the Ocean Continental Shelf (OCS).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive literature reviews and data synthesis to inform resource management decisions regarding offshore wind, oil and gas, marine minerals, and carbon sequestration.
  • Identify and assess habitats and species of concern within the OCS.
  • Compile and analyze information on climate change impacts, focusing on habitats and species of concern.
  • Develop actionable recommendations for future management practices in response to climate change.
  • Create educational resources and outreach materials for both experts and the general public, summarizing literature findings.
  • Prepare an annotated bibliography of relevant studies.
  • Present research findings and engage in webinars as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field.
  • Master of Science or Doctor of Philosophy degree is preferred.
  • Familiarity with ocean energy policy, regulatory frameworks, NEPA, and the Coastal Zone Management Act.
  • Understanding of climate impacts on deep ocean ecosystems.
