Position Overview:

This role is situated within the Aircraft Carrier Design and Systems Engineering Directorate at Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). The Hull Systems Engineer will directly assist the Ship Design Managers (SDMs) for the Nimitz (CVN68) and Ford (CVN78) Class Aircraft Carriers, as well as the Hull System Engineering Manager. The selected candidate will function as a System Engineer within the Hull Group, with occasional travel anticipated.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver technical support and evaluate risks associated with technical decisions for the Nimitz (CVN 68) and Ford (CVN 78) Class Ship Design Managers and System Engineering Manager.
  • Conduct engineering assessments, research, and problem-solving utilizing operational expertise.
  • Respond to requests for technical assistance or adjudication received through various channels.
  • Engage in and coordinate technical approval communications for Ship Alterations and Technical Assessment Team reviews.
  • Review Technical Feedback Reports for Planned Maintenance System changes requiring designated technical oversight.
  • Collaborate with Engineering Agents, Technical Authorities, and other relevant entities to address technical issues.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience with US Navy vessel structures, hull integrity, and ship stability.
  • Proficient understanding and experience in steel fabrications.
  • Strong technical writing and communication capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with or at a shipyard, Naval Surface/Undersea Warfare Center, or similar organizations supporting the lifecycle of shipboard electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with technical authority processes.
  • Experience collaborating with program managers in an engineering capacity.

Clearance Requirements:

  • Must possess an active or current Secret security clearance and U.S. Citizenship.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to remain stationary for extended periods.
  • Frequent communication with colleagues, management, and clients, which may involve delivering presentations.
  • Capable of exchanging accurate information in various situations.
  • Regular operation of a computer and other office equipment.

The anticipated compensation range for this position is $84,900-$141,100, influenced by factors such as relevant experience, skills, geographic location, and educational background.
