Position Overview:

This role is situated within the Aircraft Carrier Design and Systems Engineering Directorate at Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). The Hull Systems Engineer will provide direct support to the Ship Design Managers for the Nimitz (CVN68) and Ford (CVN78) Class Aircraft Carriers, as well as the Hull System Engineering Manager. The selected candidate will function as a System Engineer within the Hull Group, with occasional travel required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver technical guidance and evaluate risks associated with decisions made by the Ship Design Managers and System Engineering Manager.
  • Conduct engineering evaluations, research, and resolve issues based on operational expertise.
  • Respond to technical assistance requests and adjudications received through various channels.
  • Participate in and coordinate the approval process for Ship Alterations and Technical Assessment Team reviews.
  • Review Technical Feedback Reports for changes necessitating Designated Technical Representative evaluations.
  • Collaborate with Engineering Agents, Technical Authorities, and various naval facilities to address technical challenges.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience with the structures, hulls, and stability of US Navy vessels.
  • Familiarity with steel fabrication processes.
  • Strong technical writing and communication abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a shipyard or with naval warfare centers, supporting the construction, operation, maintenance, and modernization of shipboard systems.
  • Background in working with technical authorities.
  • Experience collaborating with program managers in an engineering capacity.

Security Clearance:

  • Must hold an active or current Secret security clearance and U.S. Citizenship.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to remain stationary for 50% of the time.
  • Frequent communication with colleagues, management, and clients, which may involve presentations.
  • Must be capable of exchanging accurate information in these scenarios.
  • Regularly operates a computer and other office equipment.

The anticipated compensation range for this position is $84,900-$141,100, influenced by factors such as relevant experience, skills, geographic location, and educational background.
