Position Summary: We are seeking a Deep Ocean Scientist to support the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) in understanding the implications of climate change on activities regulated within the deep waters of the Ocean Continental Shelf (OCS).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive literature reviews and data synthesis to inform resource management decisions related to offshore wind, oil and gas, marine minerals, and carbon sequestration.
  • Identify and assess habitats and species of concern within the OCS.
  • Analyze climate change impacts on marine ecosystems and recommend management practices.
  • Create outreach materials and resources for stakeholders and the public, detailing findings from literature reviews.
  • Develop an annotated bibliography of relevant research.
  • Present research findings and participate in webinars as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution.
  • Master of Science or Doctor of Philosophy degree is preferred.
  • Familiarity with ocean energy policy, regulatory frameworks, NEPA, and the Coastal Zone Management Act.
  • Understanding of deep ocean climate impacts.
