Join a team of Research, Design, Test, & Evaluation (RDT&E) professionals who are identifying, developing, demonstrating, and assessing technologies and concepts to help protect America's homeland in support of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) Office of Mission and Capability Support (MCS).

Amentum is actively seeking a Marine Safety Engineer with US Coast Guard or US Navy shipboard systems experience to support portfolio system integration and assessment initiatives. The successful candidate will drive project execution in collaboration with DHS S&T leaders, DHS Component staffs, contract team members, vendors, and other subject matter experts and supporting organizations.

This is a part-time, variable-hour position anticipated to be between 10-20 hours/week.

The position is telework with potential for travel.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Serve as project subject matter expert on USCG/Navy-related Intrinsically Safe policies and regulations.
  • Provide advice on information technology/IT (network and end-user devices) that will be designed and installed aboard U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) cutters (interior and exterior).
  • Review performer/vendor technical documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Develop and review Intrinsically Safe certification packages.
  • Advise program management team on matters affecting project success, schedule, and cost impacts, and develop project recovery plans as required.
  • Represent the organization professionally in meetings and conferences as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust designation.
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related field or demonstrated equivalent and 8+ years of experience.
  • 5+ years of experience with developing and reviewing IT/electronics designs for intrinsically safe operations/certification for shipboard installation.
  • Familiar with MIL-STD-461g (Dec 2015): Electromagnetic Interference Characteristics Requirements for Equipment
  • Familiar with MIL-STD 464d (Dec 2020): Electromagnetic Environmental Effects Requirements for Systems.
  • Familiar with IEC standards and
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, organization, and analytical skills
  • Proficiency with developing schedules, work break down structures, word-processing, spreadsheets and integrated software applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of USCG/Navy-related intrinsically safe policies and regulations experience.
  • Experience applying USCG intrinsically safe policies and regulations towards IT devices that radiate RF energy within the confines of the cutter's compartments and decks.
  • Active Secret clearance.
  • Active Public Trust adjudication.
  • Master's degree in a technical discipline
