Job Title: Associate Vice President for Human Resources

Job Summary:

The Associate Vice President for Human Resources serves as a strategic advisor to the College's Executive Cabinet, providing guidance on workforce trends, potential risks, and human resource implications of strategic decisions. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and assessing employee-focused initiatives and projects that support the college's culture of care, contribute to institutional effectiveness and transformative change, and improve the overall health and wellbeing of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead college-wide efforts to create and sustain a culture of care among college employees and in all interactions with students, colleagues, and community members.
  • Direct the planning, development, and implementation of programs to promote inclusive practices among all members of the college community.
  • Provide senior leadership and oversight of the college's equal opportunity grievance procedures, ensuring that all investigations arising from complaints of discrimination are handled fairly and appropriately.
  • Supervise staff in the Human Resources Department and provide clear guidance, expectations, and performance feedback to all staff members.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures that foster the development of an effective and innovative workforce and promote the college's strategic plan.

Requirements:

  • A master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Multi-year work history that demonstrates progressively higher levels of managerial and administrative responsibility in human resources.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of human resources laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Thorough knowledge of payroll, benefits administration, position classification and compensation, and recruitment and selection processes.
  • Thorough knowledge of the effective use of technology and methods for leveraging technology for effectiveness.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of performance management principles and best practices.
  • Thorough knowledge of planning and goal-setting approaches and techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge of process implementation and outcomes measurement practices.
  • Thorough knowledge of data analysis and reporting.
  • Experience leading a team and managing a department or enterprise.
  • Experience developing and managing budgets.
  • Experience in workforce planning and organizational development.
  • Experience working with diverse groups and populations and a commitment to building cultural competence across the college.
  • Experience in strategic and annual planning.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Work experience within an institution of higher education.
  • Experience with Virginia Department of Human Resources Management (DHRM) policy administration.
  • One or more professional certifications specific to human resources (e.g., Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), Professional in Human Resources (PHR), Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR).
  • Experience with Title IX administration.
