Job Summary:

The Staff Accountant plays a vital role in providing financial and record-keeping operations for Habitat for Humanity-Spokane. This position assists the Senior Staff Accountant in overseeing daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly account reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Account Reconciliations:
    • Oversee daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
    • Research transaction history to resolve any unreconciled items.
  • Accounts Receivable (A/R):
    • Process statements for A/R to send to homeowners making direct payments to Habitat-Spokane on Homeowner Association (HOA) expenses, Closing Cost Savings, and Utility Bills for Boone & Madelia.
    • Manage and reconcile all HOA accounts, collaborating with the Homeowner Services Department to set up new Closing Cost Savings transactions.
    • Collect accounts by sending statement reminders and communicating with clients via phone, email, fax, or mail.
    • Process reports from mortgage companies and record mortgage payments in QuickBooks or other software.
    • Submit and maintain all Umpqua mortgage loans.
    • Reconcile the accounts receivable ledger to subsidiary accounts to ensure all payments are accounted for and properly posted.
    • Resolve outstanding AR by examining client loan agreements, payment history, and contacting clients.
    • Verify the validity of account discrepancies by obtaining and investigating transactions.
    • Maintain client accounts for current contact information.
  • Payroll Processing:
    • Process bi-monthly payroll through a 3rd-party vendor.
    • Check account balances after processing payroll and correct errors.
    • Create all payroll reports as needed to reconcile benefits payable.
    • Create reports and invoices ASO for their payroll.
  • General Accounting Duties:
    • Make journal and ledger entries in QuickBooks and Excel as directed.
    • Assist the Senior Staff Accountant in A/P & A/R best practices and reconciling GL accounts.
    • Produce monthly, quarterly, annual, and special reports as directed.
    • Enter budget data into Accounting Software.
    • Oversee inventory by entering all in-kind and purchased materials and reconciling inventory on a quarterly basis with the Homebuilding Department.
    • Upload InfoTouch Sales into Accounting Software.
    • Process B&O tax for the Habitat-Spokane Store.
    • Reconcile all outstanding loans and Lines of Credit (LOC).
    • Answer Basecamp questions daily and weekly about daily tasks.
    • Participate in weekly accounting staff meetings.
    • Ensure confidentiality and policy following in all aspects of Habitat accounting and homeowner issues.
    • Preserve financial historical records by filing accounting documents.
    Requirements:
    • Bachelor's degree in accounting from a four-year college or university.
    • Two years of work-related experience.
