COMPENSATION: $125,000/year

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Hybrid, with three days in-office

ABOUT GASOL FOUNDATION

Founded by NBA champions Pau and Marc Gasol, the Gasol Foundation is committed to promoting children's health through evidence-based programs, research, and awareness initiatives aimed at reducing childhood obesity. The foundation integrates physical activity, healthy eating, sleep, and emotional wellness to enhance children's health and development. By engaging families and educators, Gasol Foundation's programs in California (alongside a sister nonprofit in Spain) aim to instill healthy habits and knowledge in children.

POSITION SUMMARY

The successful candidate will report to the Global Executive Director and work closely with the President and Board of Directors. We seek a visionary leader to drive the development, sustainability, and growth of the Gasol Foundation in the United States, leveraging insights from Gasol Foundation Europe. You will possess a diverse skill set to guide our team and advance the organization’s primary objectives: programming for children and families, scientific research, and awareness initiatives aligned with our mission.

The team operates from our downtown office, with programming extending across multiple locations and plans for future expansion in Southern California.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Fundraising

  • Formulate and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to ensure the foundation's sustainability in line with its mission and objectives.
  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities by developing strategies to engage potential donors, preparing tailored proposals, and managing fundraising documentation.
  • Oversee the execution and evaluation of fundraising campaigns and events, ensuring that established goals are achieved.
  • Foster relationships with current and prospective public and private partners, donors, and collaborators, promoting a culture of philanthropy.

Strategic Leadership & Management

  • Establish the organization's goals and strategies, including the development and execution of annual operational plans based on the Gasol Foundation model.
  • Develop partnerships and supporters to ensure ongoing sustainability.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to the team, contributing to their professional development and fostering team cohesion.
  • Ensure alignment of U.S. activities with the Strategic Plan.
  • Represent the Gasol Foundation in the community, advocating for its vision and programs at various events to enhance awareness and support.
  • Engage with local, state, and federal officials to promote the foundation's evidence-based approach as a public health priority.
  • Enhance the foundation's visibility through effective use of communication strategies.

Programs and Research Oversight

  • Supervise the U.S. Program and Research Director to ensure successful implementation of programs and research initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the U.S. Programs and Research Director to establish partnerships that support program and research goals.

Financial Management & Operations

In collaboration with the Global Chief of Operations:

  • Prepare the annual budget for Board approval and manage resources in compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Oversee operational coordination, ensuring internal administrative systems meet both field and external needs efficiently.
  • Manage human resources, including recruitment, supervision, and coordination of staff in accordance with personnel policies and legal requirements.

Board Engagement

  • Present the strategic plan and annual operational plans, along with the budget, to the Board for approval.
  • Maintain accountability to the Board for achieving established goals and executing annual plans.
  • Encourage active participation of Board members in Committees and Task Forces to ensure effective governance.
  • Enable the Board to fulfill its governance responsibilities effectively.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of 5 to 7 years of leadership experience in a nonprofit organization.
  • Demonstrated success in securing major corporate and foundation funding.
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain high-level relationships.
  • Flexibility to collaborate across time zones as part of a global team.
  • Experience in leading strategic planning processes.
  • Passion for health and wellness, particularly regarding childhood obesity, nutrition, and physical activity.
  • Familiarity with the landscape of youth nonprofits and potential donors in the region.
  • Proficiency in Spanish, both written and spoken.
