Position: Behavioral Support Advocate

Reports to: ICTS Manager

The Behavioral Support Advocate engages with youth aged 3 to 18, providing essential training to mitigate the effects of mental health challenges. This role also involves collaborating with adult caregivers to enhance their understanding of emotional and psychiatric issues, equipping them with management techniques, and participating in Collaborative Problem Solving.

Key Responsibilities:

Client Skills Development

  • Establish supportive relationships with clients, assisting them in recognizing their strengths, accessing necessary resources, and crafting personalized development plans.
  • Conduct individualized skills training sessions aimed at helping clients develop coping strategies for their emotional and psychiatric challenges, whether in home, school, or community settings.
  • Implement a structured emotional intelligence curriculum, tailoring content to suit specific circumstances.
  • Provide necessary family support, including guidance for parents and caregivers.
  • Assist clients in identifying their symptoms, setting goals, and devising strategies to achieve those goals.
  • Deliver appropriate skills training based on established service plans.
  • Offer crisis intervention services as needed.
  • Maintain a trauma-informed approach, recognizing the impact of past trauma on clients.

Collaboration with ICTS Treatment Team

  • Attend regular ICTS team meetings, working alongside colleagues to develop strategies for delivering high-quality care to clients.
  • Coordinate care with other ICTS team members and external stakeholders, including families, educational institutions, and legal entities, to support client success.
  • Collaborate with the ICTS team to create individualized behavioral support plans for clients.
  • Participate in Child and Family Team Meetings as needed, providing support to caregivers and enhancing family dynamics.
  • Evaluate safety concerns in community and home environments, ensuring appropriate measures are in place to protect clients.

Administrative and Professional Development Duties

  • Manage appointment scheduling for clients and maintain an organized calendar.
  • Complete all necessary documentation, including session notes and client records, promptly.
  • Meet productivity and reliability standards.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and treatment teams, participating in case reviews as required.
  • Engage in clinical supervision and staff meetings actively.
  • Participate in ongoing education and training to enhance therapeutic skills.
  • Contribute to quality assurance reviews as needed.
  • Represent South Lane Mental Health Services positively within the community and among service providers.
  • Conduct all responsibilities in a respectful and ethical manner, adhering to professional standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in social services, behavioral health, or a related field; or a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in mental health services.
  • Eligibility for MHACBO registration and credentialing as a QMHA; or certification as a Peer Support Specialist with inclusion on the Traditional Health Worker Registry.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of mental health assessment, treatment, and service terminology, with the ability to apply these concepts effectively.
  • Capability to implement skill development strategies for both youth and adults.
  • Skill in identifying and coordinating services outlined in Individualized Support Service Plans.
  • Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in high-stress situations and respond constructively to clients in crisis.
  • Strong verbal communication skills, with the ability to write clearly and appropriately for clinical contexts.
  • Capacity to balance clinical, cultural, and ethical considerations in relation to client and staff needs.
  • Ability to engage positively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Proficient computer skills.

Working Conditions:

  • This role involves physical activity, with work conducted in both office and community settings, including client homes, requiring regular interaction with youth.
  • Valid Driver's License is necessary; travel between various locations is required throughout the day.
