Residential Counselor I | Gándara Mental Health Center

The Gándara Center is dedicated to providing comprehensive residential, mental health, and substance abuse services to individuals and families throughout the Pioneer Valley and eastern Massachusetts. We are seeking a Residential Counselor I for our SHINE Young Adult Housing Program. This role is essential in fostering a youth-centered, safe, and therapeutic atmosphere within an overnight emergency shelter for young adults facing homelessness. The Residential Counselor I is responsible for ensuring that participants adhere to program guidelines and receive the necessary support services while managing emergency situations with professionalism.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Preferred: At least one year of experience in a related field working with youth.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must comply with agency requirements regarding driving history.
  • Availability of a vehicle for client transportation and other supportive services is necessary.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred but not mandatory.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Capability to manage conflict effectively.
  • Proficiency in First Aid, CPR, Defensive Driving, Fire Safety, and crisis intervention techniques.
  • Ability to maintain consistent attendance.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Physical capability to conduct rounds of the property.
