Your Role

WSP is currently seeking a Lead Geotechnical Engineering Consultant to join our team.

Engage in projects with our Earth & Environment division and contribute to a growing organization dedicated to fulfilling client objectives and addressing their challenges.


Your responsibilities will include providing geotechnical engineering expertise and support for various activities such as due diligence, site investigation, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, enhancement, and construction of infrastructure projects in both public and private sectors.


Key tasks may involve assisting with research, design, analysis, concept development, planning, and construction of various structures including open pit mines, roads, buildings, tunnels, dams, canals, levees, bridges, water supply systems, underground storage, and sewage treatment facilities.


You will be responsible for generating precise and clear reports and documentation related to materials, installations, and construction specifications, ensuring that all responsibilities are met with a quality standard that meets or exceeds industry norms for design, safety, and functionality.

Your Contributions

Lead the development and scoping of small to medium-sized projects.


Contribute to or lead the preparation of technical reports and presentations that articulate research findings aimed at improving, preventing, controlling, restoring, or addressing design and construction challenges.


Provide direction and technical mentorship to junior staff members.


Independently collect, compile, and analyze data from various sources including physical work sites, soil and rock samples, surveys, GIS data, subsurface information, and geotechnical data for project development and construction.


Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate measurements, statistical analysis of environmental data, and reporting.


Conduct professional geotechnical engineering tasks, addressing site conditions such as subsurface investigations, soil foundation engineering, settlement analysis, earthquake engineering, soil erosion, lateral earth pressures, geological hazards, underground water, and slope stability, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and standards.


Collaborate with a cross-functional team of engineers, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work, assisting in the layout of installations, foundations, slopes, and other systems supported by soil or rock.


Verify site characteristics, providing technical insights on environmental and subsurface conditions that may pose safety risks to proposed projects.


Prepare data visualizations such as tables, charts, and reports for the interpretation and presentation of findings.


Conduct geotechnical studies and surveys to gather information for design and planning purposes.


Assist in analyzing and interpreting data from field investigations, contributing to action plans for mitigation activities.


Support the preparation and implementation of site Health and Safety Plans.


Demonstrate responsible decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct.


Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in engineering and prior geotechnical design experience.
  • Engineer in Training status with the ability to obtain professional licensure in California within one year.
  • Technical knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles and practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent technical writing abilities.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and technology.
