Position Overview

The Senior Literacy Educator will be an accomplished classroom leader who assumes significant leadership and administrative responsibilities aligned with their salary grade. The primary objective of this role is to enhance the expertise, knowledge, and effectiveness of the teaching staff within a school or a network of schools, while also refining the educational curriculum.

In this capacity, the Senior Literacy Educator will coordinate multiple team members to foster advancements in teaching and learning. This may include providing professional guidance to peers through modeling, collaboration, and coaching, as well as employing strategies that cultivate knowledge, practice, and professional engagement among colleagues.

Senior Literacy Educators are tasked with leading and managing a critical area or function within the educational institution, exercising a high level of autonomy to ensure the successful development, delivery, and assessment of the school's educational initiatives.

Furthermore, they are expected to contribute significantly to the formulation of policies concerning teaching and learning within the institution. Their influence directly impacts the achievement of the school's objectives.

Typically, Senior Literacy Educators oversee the execution of one or more key priorities outlined in the school's strategic framework.

Key Responsibilities

Recognizing the essential role of leadership and management, combined with exemplary teaching practices, the primary responsibilities of the Senior Literacy Educator may encompass, but are not limited to:

  • Directing and managing the rollout of comprehensive school improvement initiatives in alignment with the strategic plan and institutional priorities.
  • Overseeing the implementation of school-wide enhancement strategies concerning curriculum design and execution.
  • Facilitating professional development and crafting individualized and team development plans for educators, in line with the school's priorities.
  • Managing staff performance and development through regular reviews.
  • Conducting demonstration lessons.
  • Leading the formulation of the school's assessment and reporting policies and practices.
  • Overseeing the execution of school operations and policies related to student welfare and discipline.
  • Driving the development of curriculum in a major learning area while participating in curriculum development across other disciplines.
  • Addressing general discipline matters beyond the scope of classroom teachers.
  • Contributing to the overall leadership and management of the educational institution.
  • Assisting in the creation of proposals for consideration by the school council.
  • Developing and managing the school's code of conduct.

Eligibility Criteria

Qualified educators who are currently registered or eligible for registration with the relevant teaching authority and possess demonstrated experience in the specified curriculum areas are encouraged to apply.
