Hourly Wage: $34.71

Note: The standard starting compensation for this role is at the minimum of the stated pay range. A higher salary may be negotiated based on the qualifications and experience of the chosen candidate, in accordance with the City's step placement policy.

Eligibility: This position is exclusively available to full-time City employees.

Preference: Full-time City employees will be prioritized in the following order: major division, then department, followed by all other full-time City employees.

Position Overview:

This job posting aims to fill a current vacancy within the Utilities Water Quality Division of the Utilities Department. The position operates under the guidance of a direct supervisor, and an eligibility list will be created for future openings as per the collective bargaining agreement.

The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate proficiency in operating various types of heavy construction machinery specific to designated work sites. Essential responsibilities include:

  • Driving and operating a range of light to very heavy construction or maintenance equipment.
  • Adhering to all safety and maintenance protocols related to the operation and upkeep of assigned machinery.
  • Utilizing primary equipment such as earth movers, motor graders, bulldozers, asphalt rollers, cranes, and more.
  • Completing tasks such as slope cutting with front-end loaders and backhoe operations around utility lines.
  • Interpreting construction plans and executing tasks to meet specifications.
  • Working independently or collaboratively with other personnel on construction or maintenance projects.

Job Requirements:

  • Familiarity with various equipment types and their functions.
  • Ability to operate controls and instruments effectively.
  • Knowledge of construction materials and soil types.
  • Skill in reading blueprints and using instruments for grading.
  • Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL).

Additional Information:

An eligibility list will be established from this posting for candidates scoring 70 percent or higher. Multiple selection procedures may be utilized, and results will be equally weighted. The eligibility list will remain active for a specified duration for future vacancies.
