Assist in the ongoing enhancement of Markel's Ceded Re analytics capabilities to improve our proficiency in evaluating structures and strategies aimed at maximizing profitability and capital returns within our internal risk thresholds.
  • Contribute to the advancement of Markel's Ceded Re analytics to strengthen our capacity to assess structures and strategies for optimizing profitability and capital returns.
  • Critically evaluate pricing and reserving assumptions and methodologies utilized by actuarial teams to support Ceded Re placements, ensuring their validity through the development of appropriate validation measures. Identify uncertainties and assess their potential impacts.
  • Provide independent assessments to Senior Management regarding Markel's Gross and Ceded Technical Reserves and profitability associated with Casualty lines.
  • Support Ceded Re's evaluation of the Business Plan loss ratios.
  • Present, clarify, and defend findings to Actuarial Reserving and Pricing Teams as necessary.
  • Compile Ceded Reinsurance data exhibits for Reinsurance renewal submissions, collaborating with Reinsurance Placement to ensure timely and accurate data collection.
  • Assist in post-placement data capture and analysis, including expenditure analysis, cost allocation, and profitability impact assessment.
  • Develop reporting solutions that deliver valuable insights and services related to Ceded Reinsurance to the business.
  • Offer technical guidance and training to team members.
  • Establish strong working relationships with our reinsurance brokers, underwriting leadership, and key data stakeholders.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience.
  • In-depth understanding of the insurance sector, particularly in Casualty lines, along with knowledge of reinsurance and actuarial principles.
  • Exceptional analytical and communication abilities.
  • Capability to resolve issues with minimal support on ambiguous requests or requirements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with various reporting and business intelligence tools.
