Position Overview

Cleveland County is in search of a seasoned professional to fill the role of Director of Communications and Legislative Affairs. This pivotal position is dedicated to enhancing the county's outreach and ensuring clear, transparent communication with the community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Foster and maintain collaborative relationships with government officials and agencies, while serving as a liaison to the media.
  • Design and execute comprehensive public relations and media strategies tailored for county officials.
  • Oversee the marketing initiatives for various publications, including budget management and program evaluation.
  • Build and sustain positive interactions with local, regional, and national media organizations.
  • Act as the principal spokesperson for county officials, effectively conveying their objectives and initiatives to the public.
  • Compose and refine press releases, speeches, and other communication materials.
  • Organize and manage press conferences, interviews, and media-related events.
  • Monitor media coverage and public opinion, providing insightful analysis and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure cohesive messaging across all communication platforms.
  • Handle crisis communication and respond to media inquiries with urgency.
  • Stay updated on relevant local and national issues to proactively address potential communication challenges.
  • Leverage social media channels to boost the county's online visibility and engagement.
  • Plan and execute media events effectively.
Qualifications:

Required: Proven experience in media relations, public relations, or related fields.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of engaging with diverse audiences.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a focus on relationship building.
  • Adept at managing high-pressure situations and crisis management.
  • Strategic thinker with a track record of successful plan implementation.
  • Skilled in social media management and digital communication strategies.

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related discipline.
  • Juris Doctor degree.
  • Experience or familiarity with local government operations and policies.
