SUMMARY:
The Financial Aid Advisor II is responsible for processing financial aid in accordance with Title IV regulations, as well as state and institutional policies, for eligible students at Texas A&M University-Commerce. This role supports a customer-focused environment that emphasizes student advocacy and financial literacy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Continuously reviews federal and state publications to recommend enhancements in financial aid processes and assists in developing operational forms for increased efficiency.
  • Contributes to the collection of data and preparation of Cost of Attendance budgets.
  • Assists with data entry and calculations for federal, state, and institutional reporting requirements.
  • Engages in public speaking related to financial aid and participates in outreach events.
  • Handles data entry associated with financial aid and scholarships as relevant to student financial assistance.
  • Evaluates files for general eligibility and satisfactory academic progress, exercising professional judgment regarding student dependency status, special conditions, appeals, and budget increases.
  • Provides advice and counseling to students concerning financial aid and scholarships, ensuring a high level of customer service through various communication methods.
  • Manages assigned exception reports related to financial aid processing.
  • Maintains professional competence through self-directed reading, networking with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and participating in required training.
  • Contributes to the success of the Division of Enrollment Management and the University by performing additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree required.
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Minimum one (1) year of relevant experience. Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet applications is essential. Strong oral and written communication skills are required. Demonstrated customer service abilities are necessary.
  • Ability to: Multitask and collaborate effectively with others. Organize and make independent decisions. Travel to scholarship programs and community college visits across Texas is required. Availability for extended hours, including weekends, may be necessary. Occasional overnight travel may be required.
  • Licensing/Professional Certifications: None.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift moderately heavy objects. The physical demands outlined are representative of those required to successfully perform essential job functions. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
  • Other Requirements: Advisors processing student athlete information must complete additional training in athletic compliance and adhere to NCAA regulations. Must maintain good standing on any Federal student loans.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in planning, organizing, or working within higher education.
  • Bilingual candidates are preferred.
  • Familiarity with federal and state laws, as well as Texas A&M University-Commerce regulations regarding student financial aid.
  • Experience with enterprise-level software systems and database systems such as Ellucian's Banner, PeopleSoft, or similar database products used in higher education.

SUPERVISION:
Oversees student workers.
