Position Summary: The Vice President of Research Integrity is tasked with the establishment, implementation, and oversight of the research integrity program at MD Anderson. This role is crucial in promoting responsible research practices, providing training, and addressing any allegations of research misconduct in a timely manner, ensuring compliance with legal standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Encouraging a research culture that emphasizes ethical conduct and integrity.
  • Designing and delivering educational programs on responsible research practices to the MD Anderson workforce.
  • Collaborating with executive leadership to develop systems that support ethical research conduct and training.
  • Addressing potential research misconduct allegations swiftly and managing the institution's policies regarding such issues in accordance with all relevant regulations.

General Duties: The Research Integrity Officer will ensure that MD Anderson:

  • Implements effective measures to cultivate a research environment that discourages misconduct and promptly addresses any allegations.
  • Maintains comprehensive policies for responding to research misconduct allegations and communicates necessary information to funding agencies as required.
  • Educates staff on the institution's research misconduct policies and its commitment to ethical practices.
  • Takes necessary interim actions during investigations to safeguard public health and the integrity of research.
  • Oversees research integrity functions in accordance with institutional policies.

Qualifications:

Education: MD, PhD in biomedical sciences, or Juris Doctor is required.

Experience: A minimum of five years in administrative or research leadership roles within an academic or medical institution, including experience with sensitive information and complex investigations.

Preferred Qualifications: Five to eight years of research experience in an academic medical center, preferably as a tenured faculty member, with a strong background in managing research misconduct proceedings. Excellent organizational and communication skills are essential, along with knowledge of relevant policies and laws governing research integrity.
