The Student Supports Manager (SSM) role within the School-Based SEL & Behavioral Health Team is designed to execute the integrated student services initiative of Communities In Schools of Chicago. Each SSM is strategically placed in a partner school within the Chicago Public Schools system. The SSM will focus on delivering comprehensive student services that encompass school-wide prevention, educational initiatives, and enrichment strategies, alongside providing targeted support and interventions for individual students.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Deliver personalized case management to a caseload of 50 students across elementary, middle, or high school levels, assisting them in overcoming challenges related to academics, behavior, and attendance, while contributing to broader school climate improvement efforts.
  • Collaborate effectively with school staff and community stakeholders to address student challenges and opportunities, including active participation on the school’s Behavioral Health Team or similar committees.
  • Maintain accurate and timely student case files, including detailed case notes and necessary documentation.
  • Leverage the extensive range of support services and community resources offered by the CIS of Chicago Partnerships Team.
  • Engage in regular meetings with team members, organizational staff, and clinical teams to ensure alignment and effective service delivery.
  • Support additional organizational projects and activities as required.

DESIRED SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:
  • Proven experience in providing both individual and group interventions for school-aged youth.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency in working with diverse populations, respecting varying value systems, ethnicities, cultural backgrounds, language skills, and abilities.
  • Confidence in representing Communities In Schools of Chicago through various engagements, including site visits, public speaking, community events, and occasional media interactions.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as experience with database management.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A Master’s degree in Social Work or Counseling is preferred (licensure or eligibility for licensure is advantageous).
  • A minimum of three years of experience working with adolescents, their families, and urban public school environments is highly desirable.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and reliable access to transportation is required.
  • A background check and verification of previous employment and educational credentials are mandatory; candidates must not be listed on the CPS 'Do Not Hire' registry.
