Patient Access Specialist II

The Patient Access Technician plays a crucial role in the revenue cycle, ensuring precise data collection, documentation, and retrieval through computerized systems. This position reports directly to department leadership.
Key Responsibilities- Conducts insurance verification for active policies and confirms benefits or authorization requirements.
- Reviews and rectifies registration discrepancies.
- Communicates authorization needs to relevant staff to guarantee proper service authorization.
- Collaborates with various departments to share patient access-related information.
- Performs pre-registration and insurance verification for services offered.
- Provides coverage at designated registration locations as needed, including those outside the primary work area.
- May function as a Patient Account Technician I when required.
- Completes additional tasks as assigned.
Licenses and Certifications: None required.
Education and Experience: A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required. Preferred experience includes three to five years in a related field, with at least twelve months in medical billing and follow-up within a hospital patient account department, physician office, or medical services organization.
Familiarity with ICD-9/CPT coding, third-party payer insurance verification processes, and medical terminology is essential.
Skills: Strong interpersonal skills are necessary for effective communication, both orally and in writing, with proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Proficiency in computer keyboarding skills is required, along with the ability to interact well with the public. Flexibility to travel to various work locations as needed is also important.
Working ConditionsThis role typically operates in a standard office environment with minimal exposure to excessive noise, dust, or extreme temperatures. There may be frequent exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to certain patient care activities.
