The Patient Access Technician plays a crucial role in the revenue cycle management process. This position is responsible for ensuring accurate data collection, documentation, and retrieval using computerized systems. The technician will report directly to department leadership.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct insurance verification for active policies and confirm benefits or authorization requirements.
- Review and rectify registration discrepancies to maintain accurate patient information.
- Communicate authorization requirements to relevant staff to ensure proper service authorization.
- Collaborate with various departments to facilitate patient access-related information.
- Perform pre-registration and insurance verification for services offered.
- Provide coverage at assigned registration locations as operational needs dictate.
- Function as a Patient Account Technician I when necessary.
- Complete additional duties as assigned by leadership.
Licenses and Certifications: None required.
Education and Experience: A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required. Preferred candidates will have three to five years of relevant work experience.
At least twelve months of experience in medical billing and follow-up within a hospital patient account department, physician office, or medical services organization is essential. Familiarity with ICD-9/CPT coding, third-party payer insurance verification processes, and medical terminology is necessary.
Skills: Strong interpersonal skills are required to effectively gather and exchange information in both oral and written communications. Proficiency in computer keyboarding skills is essential. The ability to relate well with the public is crucial, and the candidate must be willing to travel to various work locations as needed.
Working ConditionsThis position is typically situated in a normal office environment with minimal exposure to excessive noise, dust, or extreme temperatures. However, there may be frequent exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to certain patient care activities.
