Position Summary:

As a Patient Access Representative at Sentara, you will be responsible for patient registration in the Emergency Department and other registration areas within the hospital. Your primary responsibilities will include accurately identifying patients, gathering demographic and insurance details, and facilitating patient admissions. This role allows for collaboration with both clinical and administrative personnel. Opportunities for advancement to positions such as Patient Access Rep II/III, Team Leader, and Team Coordinator are available. You will experience a strong sense of teamwork, with all staff working together to provide optimal care for our patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Verify patient identity and ensure the correct patient record is selected.
  • Review schedules and physician orders to register patients for appropriate services.
  • Scan essential documents, including insurance cards and identification.
  • Enter and verify patient demographic and insurance information in the electronic health record.
  • Explain and complete regulatory and compliance documents while adhering to privacy standards.
  • Collect co-payments, deposits, and outstanding balances securely.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for patients, providing a welcoming impression of Sentara.
  • Assist with scheduling, pre-admission, and discharge duties as needed.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Experience in customer service and data entry is essential.
