Position Overview:

The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory is on the lookout for a skilled Financial Planning Analyst to join its Business Operations Department. This role will play a crucial part in supporting the Laboratory's financial planning and execution activities, including comprehensive reporting and budget justification, while providing analytical and fiscal support to the Budget Director and Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Key Responsibilities:

Primary Duties:

Financial Analysis and Budget Management (70%):

  • Develop and prepare various financial schedules to facilitate the Laboratory's budget management and execution processes, including long-term planning and indirect rate calculations.
  • Conduct monthly assessments of indirect cost recovery at provisional rates.
  • Generate comprehensive reports for submission to the Department of Energy (DOE).
  • Offer analytical and financial support to the Budget Director and CFO, including responding to ad hoc data requests from the DOE.

Additional Responsibilities (30%):

  • Assist Principal Investigators in preparing and submitting proposals outside the regular cycle to the DOE.
  • Manage Oracle system maintenance tasks assigned to the Budget Office, such as setting up new projects and updating funding information.
  • Contribute to the development and revision of Budget Office procedures and documentation.
  • Perform other assigned tasks as needed.
Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, or a related field; an advanced degree such as an MBA is advantageous.
  • 5-8 years of experience in a budgeting or accounting environment.
  • Familiarity with Oracle financial systems is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in developing and maintaining complex financial spreadsheets.
  • Strong understanding of Cost Accounting principles and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities; capable of articulating and quantifying the impact of various decisions and scenarios.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with personnel at all levels, both internal and external.
  • Competent in independently researching, interpreting, analyzing, and compiling data, and presenting findings.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines, including outside of regular hours when necessary.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google applications.
