This role is integral to the Gas Market Analytics team, which focuses on market evaluation, constructing fundamental market models, and forecasting supply and pricing trends through both statistical and qualitative approaches to support gas and power trading operations. The scope encompasses all North American natural gas market fundamentals, with particular emphasis on the Northeastern US markets. The primary function of this position involves conducting analysis and research pertinent to the Northeastern gas markets, while also extending coverage to other energy sources, power sectors, and global gas markets that influence domestic natural gas fundamentals. Responsibilities include both short-term and long-term analytics, research, formulating market perspectives, and actionable trading strategies to support Market Operations and Gas Trading initiatives, as well as corporate strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor fundamental factors affecting North American natural gas markets and devise effective communication methods for senior leadership and internal stakeholders.
  • Establish and uphold a proprietary perspective on gas markets to furnish internal clients with critical decision-making insights.
  • Enhance data collection and database functionalities, emphasizing efficiency through automation of reporting processes.
  • Analyze market intelligence and fundamentals to inform and recommend front office trading and hedging strategies (short-term - 3 years). Develop analytical tools to facilitate strategic decision-making and tactical trading opportunities.
  • Create and manage simulation models for short-term and long-term balance and pricing forecasts for pipelines, storage facilities, and regional markets.
  • Distribute daily market summaries and reports to the Commercial, Operations, Sales, and Origination teams.
  • Collaborate with senior management to prepare presentations for board meetings, earnings calls, investor presentations, or other required events.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Work Environment:

  • Open office layout.
  • Occasional overtime may be necessary for special projects.
  • Minimal travel required.
  • Hybrid work model combining in-office and remote work.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, or a related field (MBA/Master's degree preferred).
  • Two to five years of experience in fundamental analysis within the natural gas sector.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, process modeling, presentation, and report preparation skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel is essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the Northeast US natural gas market is preferred.
  • Comprehensive understanding of natural gas markets; familiarity with power markets is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in VBA, SQL, Matlab, Python, R, and Power BI is preferred.
  • Exceptional technical skills with a proven ability to manage databases, conduct web scraping, and utilize coding for report automation.
